No Tolerance Anti-Bullying Policy

1. Policy Statement

At Sam Wrey Performance Academy, we believe that every student has the right to learn, perform, and grow in a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.

We have a zero tolerance approach to all forms of bullying—verbal, physical, emotional, or online. Bullying of any kind will not be accepted or ignored under any circumstances.

Our aim is to:

• Promote kindness, respect, and teamwork.

• Ensure all students feel safe, valued, and confident.

• Respond promptly and effectively to all reports or signs of bullying.

• Work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and carers to address and prevent bullying behaviours.

2. Definition of Bullying

Bullying is any deliberate behaviour (repeated or one-off with intent to harm) that causes distress, fear, or humiliation to another person.

This may include, but is not limited to:

• Verbal bullying: Name-calling, teasing, insults, threats, or discriminatory remarks.

• Physical bullying: Hitting, pushing, tripping, or damaging someone’s property.

• Social/emotional bullying: Spreading rumours, excluding others, or encouraging others to isolate a person.

• Cyberbullying: Sending or sharing hurtful messages, images, or posts via text, email, or social media.

• Prejudiced behaviour: Bullying based on race, gender, disability, sexuality, religion, or any other protected characteristic.

3. Responsibilities

• Students are expected to:

• Treat everyone with respect and kindness.

• Speak up if they see or experience bullying.

• Support others who may be affected.

• Staff and volunteers must:

• Model positive and respectful behaviour.

• Supervise interactions with vigilance.

• Take all reports of bullying seriously and follow reporting procedures immediately.

• Parents/Guardians are encouraged to:

• Communicate any concerns promptly.

• Support their child in developing respectful relationships.

• Work with the Academy to resolve any issues constructively.

4. Reporting and Responding to Bullying

Any student, parent, or staff member can report bullying concerns to a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), teacher, or administrator—verbally or in writing.

All reports will be:

• Taken seriously and treated confidentially where possible.

• Investigated promptly and fairly.

• Recorded in the Academy’s safeguarding records.

If bullying is confirmed:

• The bullying behaviour will be addressed immediately.

• Appropriate consequences will be applied, consistent with the Academy’s behaviour policy.

• Support will be provided to both the victim and the person displaying bullying behaviour, to promote learning and accountability.

• Parents or guardians of all parties will be informed and involved as appropriate.

5. Consequences

The Sam Wrey Performance Academy operates a no tolerance stance.

Consequences for bullying may include:

• Verbal or written warnings.

• Temporary suspension from classes or activities.

• Permanent removal from the Academy (for severe or repeated bullying).

• Referral to safeguarding or external support services where appropriate.

6. Prevention and Education

We believe prevention is key.

The Academy promotes positive relationships through:

• Clear behavioural expectations taught in classes and rehearsals.

• Staff training on recognising and addressing bullying.

• Workshops and discussions promoting empathy, respect, and digital responsibility.

• An inclusive environment celebrating diversity and teamwork.

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by the Academy Director and Safeguarding Lead to ensure its continued effectiveness and compliance with safeguarding best practice.
